It’s not often we get snow days in NC, but when we do, I enjoy them. I’m originally from Ohio, so I’m not a novice when it comes to snow. However, North Carolina is not equipped to handle snow. Oftentimes, the stores will sell out of milk, bread and water. For someone who came from the frozen tundra, it’s comical.
Also, something that is rather irritating is that isn’t done in the north, is Saturday school. As an Ohioan, if we had an abundance of snow days, we would have an extended school year. Not so in North Carolina. They make you go on Saturdays, holidays and will take days off spring break!
I remember making fun of people in the south for canceling everything when snow was in the forecast. Now that I live here, I see why! While I know how to handle snow, the people down here do not. That makes every car that passes by a potential hazard. Now, I don’t care HOW experienced you are in winter driving. You CAN NOT drive on ice. Sure if you have snow on the shoulder, you can use that for traction. People, having snow on the shoulder is usually absent.
So to everyone who is stuck under feet of snow, or to the people who freak out over a few snowflakes. Please drive safely.
