In today’s age, there is a fascination with superficial, thoughtless tv programs that just fill our ears with meaningless dialog. There is a lack of shows that feature strong, smart, capable female lead characters and then in comes Agent Peggy Carter. She is like a breath of fresh air on a hot summers day. The setting is during the 1940s when women are secretaries, telephone operators and nearly always dismissed as social equals. Peggy Carter uses all of these situations to her advantage. During tonight’s episode, (DO NOT READ IF YOU’VE NOT SEEN IT) she says “I was able to conduct my own investigation because unless I had coffee or mail, you didn’t see me.”
Our young girls need to see that a woman can be smart, beautiful and cunning. They need to see that, even when there are people who don’t believe in you, as long as you believe in yourself, that’s what matters most. Our young girls need to see that not all superheroes are men or extremely dexterous women. They need to see that they can make a difference, even if odds are against them. The world NEEDS more Peggy Carter.
