Why I am turning into the Grinch…

I hate Christmas, In fact, I don’t really like many holidays except Halloween. (I mean, you can dress up and be silly!) Now Thanksgiving, while the meaning should be giving thanks for what you have. There are so many people that won’t have a feast on Thanksgiving. People will be flocking to “Black Friday” sales, camping out to get more stuff. While I’m not knocking the power of sales, it totally ruins the meaning of Thanksgiving.

After the Black Friday sales have ended, we move on to Christmas. Now, you ALL know Christmas officially starts the day after Halloween. Seriously. I was seeing Christmas stuff out along with the Halloween candy that is now on sale. It’s all too commercialized. I don’t remember it being this way as a child. In fact, I remember the day AFTER Thanksgiving is when the Christmas stuff would come out.

While I was brought up Christian, I wouldn’t necessarily call myself that now. I would say that I’m more spiritual, but I digress. I hate that these holidays are losing the homeyness that it used to have. That “magick” if you will. Whether you’re Christian, Muslim, Hindi, Jewish or an atheist, the meaning of these holidays, to me is celebrating your life, the life of the ones you love and remembering the ones you lost. NOT running around to get in line for the iPhone750…. Enjoy what you have, be happy you have food on the table, a job, a car or whatever else. Some aren’t so lucky.

This is why I’m turning into a Grinch. If that means not giving in to the pressures to buy, buy, buy, then so be it. I’d rather have a gift from the heart, than something that costs a fortune…
