I started this book, initially, with an open mind, honestly curious as to what the story would encompass, expectations somewhat low for an initial outing. I’m delighted to say that they should have been higher. Exceptional read. It uses many of the common tropes of the vampire/werewolf genre in YA fiction without succombing to the temptation of being derivative, while thankfully, expanding the genre with additions to the traits of each creature type. The characters are clearly defined and fleshed out, giving a vivid delineation between each, aswell as making most, when appropriate, sympathetic and understandable in their motivations. The love story at the center seems organic to the narrative, while complementing the tension of the overarching horror at it’s core. While there are moments of melodrama, they’re short-lived and understood as a necessary evil in order to move the story forward. This most definitely, despite the given of the star-crossed male and female leads overcoming the odds in pursuit if their love, is NOT, “Twilight.” Equal parts, “Near Dark,” “Let The Right One In,” “Wolfen,” and, “Blade,” there is Gore, intrigue, action, SEX and twists galore to be found and I for one cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Blood Moon Pack. Well done.

About darkmoonseries

Shelly Burrows and Michael Stewart have been role-playing together for five years and have decided to bring their characters to life. Both speak sarcasm fluently and love to talk to people about the most random of topics. Feel free to interact!
